Steinheid is a small scenic village (1,300 pop) located in the slate mountain region of
the Thüringen forest. The village lies at approx 820m above sea and is nationally
known as a health and leisure resort. Many B&B’s can be found in the area with a
selection of restaurants and attractions. Within close proximity to the property there
are ski lifts, ski rental facilities and a ski school. There are many fantastic nature
trails and cycle paths throughout the dense spruce forests and bicycles can be rented
close by. The village has spa and wellness facilities with physiotherapy and health
treatments. Steinheid is also known for its 500 year old gold mining history and
tourists can still pan for gold today in Neumannsgrund less than a mile away.

The B281 connects Steinheid to the new A73 motorway which is approx 9 miles. To
drive from Dunkerque is approx 7hrs 37 mins via Michelin route planner and there are
no road tolls. (Dover to Dunkerque via Norfolkline.) The nearest international
airport is Erfurt approx 35 miles. Nürnberg airport is approx 67 miles and offers a
major international network of flights including several British destinations via the
budget airline, AirBerlin.
